Wow, I've never thought it could get cold like it did a few weeks ago. Even though we have all these great jackets, snow pants, scarfs, hat, gloves, boots and all that good stuff we still feel cold enough to complain about the weather! The early settlers of Canada that had to deal with winter without all the advantages we have, had it bad. They- well the men - had to work hard all day outside in the cold. They had to cut fire wood, and do anything they could to get money like trading various items for other items or money. The men were also fur traders so they would spend days on end walking and sleeping in the winter on their way to there next trade. They had to stay really warm while they were out, or they could get frost bite and have there toes fall off. So they would wear layers of probably everything from socks to underwear. But when it came to inside the houses they probably had to have the fire going everyday, all day to stay warm while it was freezing cold outside.
But having to come from Ghana to Canada, my parents probably felt exactly like the early settlers did. My dad said,"We came here for a better life." But having to transition from blazing hot sun to freezing cold wind, my dad always says,"I want to go back home! Canada is too cold!" Most of the time I laughed at him, but putting myself in his shoes I'd be pretty mad. "But the only way we could adjust to the weather was to dress up very warmly, with gloves and hats and scarfs or anything that would keep us warm." my mom said.
Now I feel lucky to be living in this cold weather with less of a struggle than my parents and the early settlers went through.
Most of my ideas I had to put myself into that situation to really get an idea of it, but a link i checked out was http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/index.cfm?PgNm=TCE&Params=A1ARTA0006303.

History of the Future
Today I read a blog called "To the Nines -- reviewing the centuries" by Christopher Moore click here to read it. Our assignment was to write a blog about what we thought the future of 2109 was going to be like this is what I thought:
- By 2109 there are probably going to be thousands of more diseases out there. Even with technology growing rapidly, I don't think it will help cure the diseases that will come by then. The diseases will kill a lot of people, especially people in a situation where they can't get help from doctors, because they don't have money. That would cause diseases to spread, with no cure.
- The worlds population will grow rapidly, and there will be less space on Earth, only because we would have to make room for more people which equals to more houses, more stores, more cars and more space being taken up.
- School will be completely different in 2109, there will be more exciting history that children will learn that we lived through! There would be so many different methods of learning by then, probably every child as young as 6 would use a computer for their work. Instead of using pens, pencils or paper.
- But another new thing in the year of 2109 would be the environment, would it be as healthy as it is now? Even though it's not that healthy itself now. Would people stop polluting the Earth? By then there would be less pollution but I still think there would be pollution because almost every factory that makes anything badly pollutes the world, so does big fires. I also think that physically there will be a lot of changes of course, but I think scientist and engineers would discover a way to reduce pollutions when it comes to vehicles. That could help sure, if the world hasn't blown up by then.
- War would probably be worse by 2109 only because this whole world revolves around money, power and more power! A lot of countries could get corrupted by power, because they would want more land which equals more power. They would find little things to pick a fight with countries that are smaller than them, to end up owning the country's land after killing so many people. And since the wars in the world are bad now, think about it in a hundred years... countries would find little a little excuse to have a war with a country. For power, things can get a lot worse in a thousand years.
- One last thing I have to say about 2109 is transportation, there could be a great advance in that area we could have never predicted. For example having trains travelling over seas and oceans or even travelling under them! They could gain such amazing speeds that we would have no use for planes for travelling from country to country. Even cars could change drastically like only being powered by solar power instead of gas, only because all natural oils would be non-existent. So if all non-replaceable oils are gone what would planes run off? Well i think there would be no planes at all.
Though so many bad things could come to the Earth in the future, I feel we would be advanced enough to survive the years from now to 2109. But I don't think life will be as simple as it is now.
